One Tuesday evening in January, Wolfgang Puck was in town to check in on his popular restaurant attached to the Newseum; just two days earlier, President Obama wined and dined the first lady there for her birthday. The restaurant was packed. The Chinese New Year was fast approaching, and chef Scott Drewno was introducing a special menu featuring a mouth-watering Szechuan filet and whole steamed black bass. Drummers and men in a giant dragon costume snaked through the restaurant to ramp up the festivities. Lately, The Source has been at the center of the party, attracting a cavalcade of D.C.’s boldfaced heavy hitters, scenesters, and minor media celebrities—we’re looking at you, 107.3 FM’s Tommy McFly! Drewno’s cooking, however, is worth braving the hoopla.
