Yes! Organic Market expansion
The local organic grocery chain currently has six locations. It is the seventh that will count the most. In July, the chain will open a store at 2323 Pennsylvania Ave. SE in Fairlawn. In the last few years, east-of-the-river residents have seen a smattering of condo construction, the opening of a new Giant, and an IHOP. But they’ve had to wait a long time to get a bite at that organic apple. Yes! should help dilute the influence of cheap carryouts and, well, pancake specials that dominate that quadrant. And co-owner Gary Cha isn’t opening small. The new store boasts 7,500 square feet, making it nearly twice as big as the chain’s 14th Street NW location. The store will also include a fresh sushi counter, a first for Yes! “People are already sending me e-mails saying how excited they are,” Cha, 52, says. “Just because they live across the river, I feel like they’ve gotten less attention. They deserve the same good quality food, access to good quality food, organic food as people who live in Northwest. And I’m happy to be the one offering them that.”
