Best Chocolate Chip Cookie

Can someone explain why ACKC doesn’t sell the very best chocolate chip cookie in the city? It should. Artfully Chocolate Kingsbury Confections, after all, has the name, the staff, and the narrow mission to craft the market leader. Yet ACKC appears to stock more blondies than traditional chippers, and said stock tends to fall short. Though the store indeed infuses its product with some fine chocolate, it’s the dough that doesn’t play on the same level. It’s a touch dense and occasionally undercooked. The point here is not to slam ACKC but rather to lament that the city’s trendiest chocolatier isn’t making a run at Marvelous Market’s cookie. Still the one to beat, Marvelous earns its name via its classic chipper, a perfectly browned specimen that’s huge and crispy and chewy. But a remarkable competitor is rising just up the hill. It’s the chocolate chip cookie at Tryst in Adams Morgan. From the abundance of chips to the finely baked exterior to the chewy inside, this iteration should find itself on best-of lists for years to come. This is not some third-party cookie, either. According to owner Constantine Stavropoulos, Tryst makes its own chippers each morning at an “in-house bakery operation” that toils through the night at nearby Open City. Writes Stavropoulos via e-mail: “The chocolate chip cookies are one of the most popular sweets we carry. They’re just crunchy enough on the edges while perfectly soft in the center. Some people buy several at a time to-go, and I wish we could identify their buying patterns because they unexpectedly clean us out!”
