Best Beer Bar with Live Music
2711 Wilson Blvd., Arlington; (703) 525-8646
Not so long ago, Galaxy Hut was a great music venue that had decent beer—you know, a few Belgian imports and the same old American micro- and macro-brews. Since Lary Hoffman bought the bar in 2005, he has shifted the focus from live shows to craft beer. With 20 rotating taps and 30 bottles, the Hut is now a beer bar first and a music venue second, with touring and local bands only two nights a week. Hoffman stocks some of Belgium’s best, like St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Duchesse de Bourgogne, and always gets the latest release from popular American breweries like Bell’s, Troegs, and the Bruery. You can also count on Galaxy Hut for offerings from local(ish) breweries like Flying Dog (Frederick), Heavy Seas (Baltimore), Legend (Richmond), AleWerks (Williamsburg), and Tuppers’ (brewed at St. George in Hampton). The Hut also does its fans right by selling by the goblet, pint, or pitcher and having one of the best snack deals around—a giant basket of tater tots for $4. Could this Galaxy be heaven?
