2nd Best: Arlington Farmers Market at Courthouse
Adjacent to the Arlington County Courthouse at the intersection of N. Courthouse Road and N. 14th Street
For fresh, local produce, meats, and cheeses, D.C.’s sustainable cloth bags runneth over with great farmers markets. Best-known among them is the Sunday morning FreshFarm market at Dupont Circle. But there are less frustrating ways to live la vida locavore. Last year’s winner, the Penn Quarter FreshFarm market, remains on top. Its Thursday offering brings the greatest hits from Dupont, without the crowds. Across the river, the Arlington Farmers Market at Courthouse, now in its 30th year, runs a close second. This producers-only market hosts more than 30 vendors from within a 125-mile radius. Local favorites include EcoFriendly Foods (meat and poultry), Blue Ridge Dairy (cheese and yogurt), Endless Summer Harvest (hydroponic greens) and Atwater Bakery. The market is open from 8 a.m. to noon from mid-April to December and from 9 a.m. to noon January to mid-April.
