Zorba
1612 20th St NW, Washington, DC 20009, (202) 387-8555

Every summer, the patio at Zorba’s Café provides a welcome escape from the oppressiveness of trying to eke out a living in Wonk City. The outside dining area is routinely packed with people sipping wines or noshing on spanakopita, fries, taramosalata, salads, or one of Zorba’s luscious gyros stuffed with lettuce, feta, and tender strips of beef and lamb. It’s in these moments that Zorba’s is at its best: You get to see official Washington unwind. The clientele at this Dupont Circle–area mainstay, after all, is mostly the button-down type, the kind of people who probably work at places with “institute” or “center” in the title. Lucky for them, Zorba’s is where their problems seem to evaporate with a few bites of fresh, cheap, and delicious food.
