Best Replacement for Olsson’s
One More Page Books
2200 N. Westmoreland St., No. 101, Arlington
2008 was D.C.-area bookselling’s annus horribilis: That year marked the demise of Candida’s World of Books and two important local chains, Karibu and Olsson’s. (College Park’s Vertigo Books wouldn’t survive 2009.) Among the downsides of that literary contraction was lost speaking opportunities for authors, especially those lacking the kind of celebrity that fills seats at Politics & Prose. Since opening in late 2010, Arlington’s One More Page Books has increasingly stuffed its reading calendar with a mix of pundits, up-and-coming novelists, and YA authors. Now it’s a rare day when a book event isn’t taking place and drawing in locals—among them President Barack Obama, who swung by with his daughters to do some Christmas shopping last November.
