Best Rock Club to Escape D.C. Rock

6355 Rolling Road, Springfield, Va.; (703) 569-5940
Jay Nedry is the unsungest rock god of the D.C. market. For decades, Nedry has booked bands no other club owner would touch. His Springfield nightspot exudes a sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll aura that is totally at odds with this area’s puritanical, post-hardcore stereotype. The darkest and loudest metal bands on the planet play Jaxx, and the roughest and blackest-T-shirt-wearing rock fans flock there to see ’em. Lately, economic realities have forced Nedry to turn the club over to Latin dance parties for much of the week. But there’s still no area music venue more fun to be at than Jaxx on an old-school hard rock night, like the recent gigs with Blackie Lawless and his flame-shooting codpiece, and another Kix reunion. If you love rock, do what you can to keep Nedry’s Springfield rock room among the undead.
