American City Diner
5532 Connecticut Ave. NW; (202) 244-1949
If you’re looking to make your usual dinner-and-a-movie date night more efficient, you mercifully have an alternative to the Arlington Drafthouse. Chevy Chase’s American City Diner offers nightly screenings of films from all decades and genres. (March’s schedule runs the gamut from 12 Angry Men to Grease to The Shawshank Redemption.) There’s not a lot of room for distraction in the cozy, screened-in patio that has become the diner’s designated movie space, save for the occasional server or the door-penetrating wails of a nearby child. (The dangers of family-friendliness.) But hey, it’s free.
