Big Game Books

Don’t let the name fool you: Maureen Thorson’s Big Game Books aims its DIY publishing tools at very small targets. Thorson began hand-churning her signature wee “Tinysides” in 2006; since then, she’s created nearly 50 eight-page collections. The books, edited and designed by Thorson, are small and move fast: Each 50-copy run, priced at a buck a pop, typically runs out within a couple of weeks. Local poets like Tom Orange, Cathy Eisenhower, and Buck Downs have all gotten the Tinyside treatment, while bigger names, including David Trinidad, have released more traditionally sized chapbooks with Big Game. But even Thorson’s more traditional offerings come with some fresh packaging: Trinidad’s poem, “Tiny Moon Notebook,” is packaged in a mint-sized silver tin.
