Best of D.C. 2010

There are plenty of places where newcomers are welcome and encouraged. At Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, for starters, the first-time visitor is greeted warmly.

The District of Columbia isn't one of those places. It’s not that the longtime citizens and leaders don’t believe that fresh blood and a stronger tax base are critical to prosperity. The problem is that the newcomers haven’t suffered enough.

In the best spirit of civic journalism, we are dedicating this issue to the newcomers. We want the rest of the city to stand up and look at what you folks are doing for this town, and at the same time, we want to impart advice on what’s worth checking out around here. —Erik Wemple
