Best of D.C. 2009

Best: Citronelle

Second-best: Dino

There’s no question that Citronelle’s wine list would be among the top three spots in any city and it certainly deserves high mention in D.C., even if its long-time sommelier, Mark Slater, split for Ray’s the Steaks. At Citronelle, choices remain extensive and penetrating under new sommelier Kathryn Morgan, with some of the most impressive French wines on the market. For a scaled-back approach, however, there’s Dino. The options at this Cleveland Park success story are extensive. The wine list, itself, provides flavor descriptions helpful to both the informed and the newbie. The wine program offers free corkage on two nights a week and the wine-by- the-glass program is superb. What more could you ask for? How about a reasonable price? Dino is tirelessly searching for ways to bring that, too, as well as specialty programs that help customers discover and enjoy new wines and new wineries.
