D.C. Zine Fest at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church Saturday, Aug. 9

You don’t need a media empire, a printing press, or even spell-check to make a zine for the ages. This weekend, DC Zinefest will mark its fourth anniversary with a day devoted to the art of writing, drawing, collaging, and distributing independent media and art. This year’s fest features more than 50 self-publishers showing off their original creations, from literary digests and graphic novels to self-defense guides and the authority on everything fecal, Poop Matters. Aspiring zinesters will find plenty of seasoned vets to learn from, and there will be a pop-up distribution table for small-batch artists who have just a few copies of their work to sell or give away. Save room for the snacks, too—vegan, of course. The event begins at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church, 1525 Newton St. NW. Free. dczinefest.com.
