Joan Rivers at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue Wednesday, July 2

Just because she’s inside a house of worship doesn’t mean Joan Rivers will bite her tongue when she visits Sixth & I Historic Synagogue for a chat with the Atlantic’s Hanna Rosin. Comedian, host of E!’s Fashion Police, and professional shit-stirrer Rivers returns to town with a new book that promises to be salacious as ever. Diary of a Mad Diva goes directly inside Joan Rivers’ dirty and devious mind, which might make readers feel like they’re breaking into their sister’s room and reading all the gory details of her diary—but better, because this sister is an 81-year-old woman with a hold-nothing-back approach to breaking celebrities down to size. From Lena Dunham to the Kardashians, in this latest tome, no starlet is safe from Joan’s wrath. Don’t be surprised if her comments prompt mass tweeting, your body aches from laughing, and your jaw drops a few inches by the end of the night. Unfortunately, Rivers won’t be signing books. But if you’re lucky, she might critique your outfit during the question-and-answer portion. Don’t blame me if she sends you home in tears. Joan Rivers reads at 7:30 p.m. at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, 600 I St. NW. $40. (202) 408-3100. sixthandi.org.
