Part hookah bar, part neighborhood dive, part dance club, Columbia Heights’ Zeba Bar channels many moods on any given night. On the fourth Friday of the month, its floors get covered in glitter when it hosts glittHER, a dance party for young queer ladies sponsored by event-promotion group The V DC. In the wake of She.Rex’s departure from Chief Ike’s, it seemed as though glittHER might replace it as the Friday-night destination for ladies in search of dancing and $5 whiskey shots, but they’re not serving exactly the same crowds. While She.Rex initially catered to the alternative set, glittHER is comparably more mainstream. That means lots of pop and hip-hop (the Spice Girls, Nelly, and Will Smith made appearances on a recent playlist) and a slightly younger crowd. Don’t let that scare you away, though: Zeba remains a 21-plus establishment, and if things start feeling a bit juvenile, well, you can always distract yourself with hookah.
