Pasties and Popcorn at U.S. Navy Memorial Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25

As a promoter of films that run 15 minutes or less, DC Shorts understands that audiences enjoy a little variety in their cultural programming. For Pasties and Popcorn, this weekend’s collaboration with local burlesque troupe Tilted Torch, they’ll intersperse film screenings with belly dance routines, hoop dances, and other quirky variety acts. The films fall in the same vein, chronicling the awkward details of love, romance, and seduction. In The Morning After (pictured), a woman must retrace the details of the previous night after waking up beside a sexy stranger, while in Scent of a Woman (a short directed by Lauren Savoy, not the 1992 Pacino flick), Chloe, who is lactose intolerant, must choose between intestinal distress and passion when her boyfriend serves fettuccine alfredo. Both romance and comedy may be invoked in this program, but “rom-com” doesn’t sound like quite the right descriptor. The films show tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Burke Theater, 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. $20. (202) 393-4266.
