"Everything You Are Looking For" at Artisphere Thursday, Nov. 21

Industrial materials are not things of great beauty. They serve a strictly utilitarian, though important, purpose: making it possible for structures to stand and lights to light. But what if someone repurposed those materials and created what amounts to an artistic think piece? That’s what sculptor and 2013 TED Fellow Alicia Eggert attempts to do in her installation, “Everything You Are Looking For,” now on view at Artisphere. Eggert crafted a series of letters from neon lights and wires that, on first glance, looks jumbled and unintelligible. As the work illuminates, however, different words are spelled out, revealing the cryptic message “Everything you are...looking for is...invisible.” The exhibit also includes a collection of Eggert photographs that focus on moments of anticipation. Answers here seem few and far between, but the questions may be satisfying enough. The exhibit is on view Wednesdays to Fridays 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturdays noon to 11 p.m., and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. at Artisphere, 1101 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. Free.
