"Fuego Flamenco IX" at GALA Hispanic Theatre Thursday, Nov. 14

Even in a preschool classroom, foot-stomping is rarely an acceptable form of communication. But what about during GALA Hispanic Theatre’s ninth iteration of Fuego Flamenco? This month, the theater will again play host to Spanish dancers with castanets and elaborate traditional costumes, and this time, it’s all about new interpretations of the centuries-old traditions. From Nov. 8 to 10, local choreographer Edwin Aparicio debuts "Uno Más Uno," a collaboration with husband Aleksey Kulikov inspired by their recent marriage. Beginning Nov. 14, the sensuality cranks up when Madrid-based duo José Jurado and Isabel Rodríguez present the U.S. premiere of “Templanza,” a “slow-burning fire” driven by the creative impulses that inspire musicians and performers. If you choose to stomp to signify approval, chances are good you won’t be faulted. Performances run Nov. 8 to 17 at GALA Hispanic Theatre, 3333 14th St. NW. $20–$35. (202) 234-7174. galatheatre.org.
