The Woman in Black at Keegan Theatre Thursday, Oct. 31

If you believe that Halloween is first and foremost about getting creeped out, Keegan Theatre’s got the ticket: The Woman in Black. The play, about a lawyer who hires a young actor to retell the story of a ghostly young woman who has haunted him for decades, is creepy enough on its own, but its film noir elements should contribute a spooky, stylish element. There’s no blood, no guts, no bugs, just the haunting presence of a deeply troubled lady and a rocking chair that keeps moving when no one is sitting in it. And in an establishment as intimate as the Keegan, where it’s easy to hear the reactions of other audience members, rest assured that your neighbors will be as freaked out as you. By the time you get home, you’ll be in no state to snack from that leftover bag of mini-Snickers. The play runs Oct. 31 to Nov. 30, Thursdays to Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. at Keegan Theatre, 1742 Church St. NW. $30–$35. (703) 892-0202. keegantheatre.com.
