District of Literature Sept. 30 at Library of Congress

Impressive as the National Book Festival is, its national authors can overshadow the local. So the District of Literature festival is an act of cultural rightsizing: Speakers Elizabeth Alexander, E. Ethelbert Miller, Edward P. Jones, and George Pelecanos have all written thoughtfully about place, race, and personal politics, and the day’s events are designed to make the case for the District’s formidable literary history as well as its future.
