Miss Saigon at Signature Theatre Sunday, August 18

How will they do the helicopter scene in that tiny theater? This is the question anyone who has sung “I’d Give My Life for You” in the shower has been asking ever since Signature Theatre announced it would produce Miss Saigon as its mainstage fall musical. Chamber-sizing Broadway blockbusters is a specialty for the theater, which has found success by scaling down Hairspray, Dreamgirls, My Fair Lady, and many other Tony winners. The story of love and lust during the Vietnam War seems like a particularly tough squeeze, however. When Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil’s hit opened in 1989, the helicopter cruising in from the wings was the talk of the West End, and the theatrical whirlybird has wowed audiences ever since. For its 2012 revival of Xanadu, Signature solved a comparable problem by having the lead actress play with a My Little Pony instead of dropping a pegasus from the ceiling. That was cute, but consider yourself warned, Eric Schaeffer: A G.I. Joe helicopter will not satisfy the melodrama-loving masses. The musical runs August 15 to Sept. 22 at Signature Theatre, 4200 Campbell Ave., Arlington. $29–$69. (703) 820-9771. signature-theatre.org.

Where can I find those prices? The cheapest is $89.60
(pre-ticketmaster checkout which will probably add another $20 a piece!!)
