Throughout her life, Mexican painter Frida Kahlo always affirmed that she didn’t make surrealist art, but depicted her reality as she saw it. That said, her artwork clearly speaks to a life marked by suffering and a certain surrealism of its own.
French choreographer Aurélien Kairo has taken it upon himself to reimagine the life and mind of this prolific artist through hip-hop movement juxtaposed with orchestral and jazz music, bringing a etherealness and exuberance to the struggles that led to Kahlo’s resolute and incredible creativity.
Presented by the Alliance Française as part of the 2013 Urban Corps transatlantic dance festival.
