?uestlove at Howard Theatre Saturday, March 30

Pretty much every article written about Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson comes to the same conclusion: Regardless of how famous the Roots’ founder/producer/bandleader on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon has gotten, he remains a hyper-focused, all-around cool guy. He still finds time to just DJ and show fans the breadth of his musical knowledge. He’s entertained crowds with classics by Prince, a Jackson sibling or two, and Stevie Wonder, but can quickly turn it down 12 notches and summon his late-night television alter ego, Black Art Garfunkel. There’s always some element of surprise in a good DJ’s set and ?uestlove’s performances are no different: At a performance earlier this month in Brooklyn, he spent a few hours jamming with resurrected R&B singer D’Angelo, and a corner of the Internet briefly freaked out for. Whether this show will include a special guest that prompts a similar online reaction remains to be seen, but ?uestlove will probably toss in enough surprises to make this dance party a memorable one.

?uestlove performs at 11 p.m. at the Howard Theatre, 620 T St. NW. $17.50-$22.50. (202) 803-2899. thehowardtheatre.com.
