Olympic Fever Keep the Summer Games far, far away.

No sooner had Queen Elizabeth pretended to parachute into Olympic Stadium this summer than some local bigwigs began to get visions of pulling off their own stunt. D.C., passed over to become the U.S. bidder for the 2012 Games, would try again for the 2024 Olympics. The “rewards could be golden,” Post Metro columnist Robert McCartney mused (get it?). Overlooked somehow: The $10 million D.C. and Baltimore organizers wasted on their losing bid for 2012, or the $14.5 billion London spent on this summer’s Olympic fortnight. Fortunately, the whole thing seemed to be an Olympic fever dream; by the time local sportscasts started focusing on RGIII instead of Michael Phelps, no one was talking about 2024 at all anymore. Let’s keep it that way.
