Miller, Emily A one-woman gun-rights advocate

Dick Heller may best be known for the landmark 2008 Supreme Court case bearing his name that found D.C.’s handgun ban to be unconstitutional, but Emily Miller has become the single most potent one-woman gun lobby in the District. Late last year, the Washington Timesscribe decided not only to get a handgun, but also to document the entire process. Throughout the ensuing series—more than 20 articles—Miller exposed inconsistencies and obstacles in buying and registering her gun, testified before the D.C. Council, and even convinced former Council Chair Kwame Brown to go shooting with her. She got what she wanted: Miller is now the proud owner of a 9mm Sig Sauer, and the Council eased the gun-registration process earlier this year. She’s not done, though. Miller has also taken up the cause of nonresidents—mostly soldiers and vets—caught in D.C. with guns legally purchased and registered in other states, as well as pushing for the possession of ammunition to be decriminalized and residents to be granted concealed carry permits. The Newtown massacre didn’t slow her down: she opined that guns in the classroom may have prevented it, and continues to pester legislators over concealed carry rights D.C. residents currently lack.

Our Readers Say

Emily is my hero (heroine?) - I wish there were thousands more like her in newspapers everywhere.
Guns r no different than a knife. Neither will hurt anything unless the holder wants it to. Teach ur kids responsibility, respect, right and wrong. They grow up to respect all things and do what is right.
Emily Thank you for all your tireless work on 2nd Amendment issues, and thanks for fighting for our veterans. Both issues are too often forgotten by the mainstream media.
What can I do to help?
Emily is an inspiration to all of us!

I am surprised that your publication did a story on such a great American, but wait, you got your liberal "never let a tragedy go to waste" statement in there!

"The Newtown massacre didn’t slow her down: she opined that guns in the classroom may have prevented it, and continues to pester legislators over concealed carry rights D.C. residents currently lack."

She has done more for the "peoples rights" in the past year and a half than any local political person or liberal news outlet has, EVER!
Emily's award-winning, first-person journalism on this subject is a terrific example of what reporters should be doing more of. Bonus: she's adorable!
Emily is not "pestering" legislators. She is actively supporting the 2 Amendment by using the 1st Amendment which protects the 1st Amendment. Rock on Emily!
Emily Miller is considered a heroine for standing up to the anti-2nd Amendment crowd in our National Capital. Isn't is a shame that someone who is only asking for a right guaranteed in our Constitution is considered a heroine? What she did was shine the light of freedom on the cockroaches who work hard to deny citizens their God given rights.

Emily is doing what the rest of the media has failed to do for the most part.

The media tends to high-five any gun control proposals and ignore how law abiding people are impacted by them. The American gun owner is treated like a African-American in the jim crow south - any effort to stymie gun rights is overlooked by the media elite.
