BlackBerry Overtaken by the iPhone and Android, even in federal Washington

It was once a tell-tale sign of status in certain circles in federal Washington: the constant blinking red light in the upper right corner of your BlackBerry, flashing around the clock with urgent emails about the future of the nation (or so you wanted your friends at the bar to believe). Even as iPhones and Androids took more and more mobile market share, D.C. clung stubbornly to the little Research in Motion devices. Not anymore: 2012 saw a steady drip of federal agencies buying millions of dollars worth of Apple and Google handsets. Even government drones, it turns out, want to play with Instagram in their off hours.
