Jessica and David Mayfield at Jammin' Java Tuesday, Dec. 4

Based on their ages (23) and the subjects they both sing about (love! breakups!), a foolish person might compare Jessica Lea Mayfield to an indie Taylor Swift. But nah, she’s no starlet. While Swift is busy perfecting her expressions of false modesty, Mayfield is touring hard and only stopping for occasional gigs on late-night talk shows. Her blend of folk, alternative, and country developed at an early age—she joined her parents and siblings in the family bluegrass band, One Way Rider, at age 8, and has been touring and recording pretty much nonstop since then. On her current tour, she’s joined by elder brother David, who’s both a multi-instrumentalist and a comedic showman. Despite the fact that this series of shows is known as the “Sibling Rivalry Tour,” expect the Mayfields to collaborate tonight, both on their original compositions and the traditional gospel songs they grew up hearing. And because they’re not international megastars just yet, you won’t have to strain to hear the music over the yelps of weeping tweens.

Jessica and David Mayfield perform with T. Hardy Morris at 8 p.m. at Jammin’ Java, 227 Maple Ave. East, Vienna. $15. (703) 255-1566. jamminjava.com.
