Tracy Morgan at Howard Theatre Thursday, August 2

There’s only one season left of Tina Fey’s 30 Rock. But devotees of series star Tracy Jordan, er, Morgan, don’t have to schedule the DVR to catch the comedian in his element: Tonight, Morgan plays two sets on the Howard Theatre’s stage. Consider steeling your stomach before you set foot on T Street NW, because Morgan, kind of like Bob Saget, plays it soft on television, but cannonballs into the deep, disgusting blue on stage. Think Daniel Tosh—uncensored—with a heaping spoonful of Eddie Murphy’s Raw. Don’t bring the kids, even if Morgan’s material doesn’t always aim higher than the level of an eighth-grade boy, but do consider that Morgan borrows from a long lineage of artfully profane stand-ups. “He understood the history of the theatre,” says Blue Note Entertainment Group talent buyer Toffer Christensen, “and wanted to contribute to its future.”

Tracy Morgan performs at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. at The Howard Theatre, 620 T St. NW. $55 in advance, $60 day of show. thehowardtheatre.com. (202) 803-2899.
