In its first year, V-Day DC raised $600. Now in its fifth year, V-Day DC has the ambitious goal of raising $15,000 as part of V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. Our all-volunteer staged reading of Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues is part of the broader V-Day Campaign, an international movement to end violence against women. This year, all proceeds will benefit our local beneficiary, the Polaris Project’s local DC Client Services, and this year’s V-Day spotlight campaign, the women and girls of Haiti.
The V-Day Spotlight Campaign is a global movement to call attention to the high levels of violence against women and girls in Haiti, and will focus on the increased rates of sexual violence since the devastating earthquake that took place in January 2010. All funds raised through the Spotlight Campaign will be used to support a revolutionary national campaign in Haiti lead by a coalition of women activists – including longtime V-Day activist Elvire Eugene – that will address sexual violence through art, advocacy, safe shelter and legal services. Ten percent of V-Day DC’s proceeds will go to this campaign.
This production is affiliated with the Truman Scholars Association, an organization of 33 years’ worth of scholars recognized for their leadership and commitment to public service, and the living memorial to our 33rd President.
Recommended donation per ticket is $10. Please visit vdaydc.org for more information, to reserve tickets, or to contribute an item or service to our raffle.
Bonus Event: As an additional fundraiser, the women of V-Day DC are hosting a special V-Day screening of Miss Representation at Bloombars (11th and Kenyon in Columbia Heights) on February 14 at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now at missrepbloombarsvday.eventbrite.com.
