Armao, Jo-Ann The Post's local editorialist is all-powerful, 364 days a year.

The Washington Post editorial board doesn't have much juice on election day—just ask Adrian Fenty. The other 364 days of the year, though, a Post editorial can get results. Jo-Ann Armao, who pens the paper’s District politics editorials, launched a jihad against Ward 5 Concilmember Harry Thomas Jr. last year that probably helped nudge along the attorney general's investigation of Thomas' shady non-profit, Team Thomas—which led to his current troubles with federal law enforcement. Likewise, Armao's blistering words about a relatively puny city lawnmowing contract prompted an all-day council hearing and a frenzied mayoral pushback. Armao's byline doesn't appear in the paper, and few outside the Wilson Building know who she is. But no politician wants to cross her, even if they don’t need her endorsement.
