If President Barack Obama manages to pass his American Jobs Act—far from likely, but still the administration’s number one priority these days—Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will have another $60 billion to kick around, what with $50 billion worth of investments in highways and transit, plus another $10 billion for a National Infrastructure Bank. That’s good news for D.C., since LaHood has been a friend to the city during his time here, and could send a few million our way for priorities—think the embryonic streetcar system and as-yet-unfunded plans for high-speed rail into Union Station. In the meantime, LaHood has been weathering a massive headache courtesy of Congress’ inability to fund highway projects and the Federal Aviation Administration in a timely manner. Today, he expounds on the former and vents about the latter over lunch at the National Press Club. Is red meat on the menu?
