Three Hard-to-Predict Hip-Hop Veterans The fall's best hip-hop shows

Lupe Fiasco and Wale at Merriweather Post Pavilion Sept. 16

Lupe Fiasco has been noticeably quiet since he called President Obama a terrorist. Meanwhile, DMV native Wale made noise with his recent mixtape The Eleven One Eleven Theory. The two will be joined by rappers Big Sean and Tinie Tempah and pop singer Miguel for the Laser Tour. Given the lineup, this show promises to be anything but subtle.

Black Star at Fillmore Silver Spring Sept. 18

It’s been almost 13 years since Brooklyn MCs Mos Def—who last week announced he’ll go by Yasiir beginning in 2012—and Talib Kweli released their eponymous Black Star to widespread critical acclaim. Since then, the two have focused on solo efforts to the neglect of more Black Star material. Tonight, they perform the classic album in its entirety. Maybe a new project’s in the works? One can only hope.

RJD2 at 9:30 Club Oct. 12

DJ/producer RJD2 loves distorted, abstract beats, so his abrasive production should fit well with 9:30 Club’s equally powerful sound system. Bring your ear plugs.
